There was a revival of color on the red carpet at the Emmys this red carpet season. Stars turned to Gen Z yellow and shimmery sequins to make a statement. Meanwhile, Black-ish star Jenifer Lewis went political in support of Colin Kaepernick.

Other actresses embraced a dark romanticism, with a nod to Old Hollywood glamour. Here are The Hollywood Reporter's top 10 best dressed stars at the 2018 Emmy Awards.

  • Tracee Ellis Ross

The Black-ish actress played a diva like her mama in a voluminous Valentino that was pure fashion drama.

  • Rachel Brosnahan

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel couldn’t have picked a better gown herself. This ravishing red Oscar de la Renta Grecian goddess gown draped off one shoulder oozed classic Hollywood glamour.

  • Sandra Oh

Sandra Oh was also red hot in a siren gown from the Autumn-Winter 2018/2019 couture collection of Ralph & Russo.
  • Tiffany Haddish

The fashion recycling pro (remember her favorite Alexander McQueen dress?) collaborated with Prabal Gurung on a rainbow-striped gown with meaning. “I asked him to make a dress representing the Eritrean flag on my father’s side,” she told E!.

  • Mandy Moore

The This Is Us actress put a new spin on red carpet sequins, with this custom, tortoise-hued, plunge-front gown by L.A. designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte.

  • Scarlett Johansson

Another unique take on sequins, the Avengers star wore a white plunge-front, off-shoulder, thigh-high-slit seduction machine — from Balmain.

  • Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel’s textural strapless white Ralph & Russo gown with fluttering petals and a dramatic train was unlike anything else on the carpet.

  • Keri Russell

The Americans star was a bird of paradise in a dramatic, slit-front, feathered frock from Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2018 Couture Collection.

  • Tina Fey

Tina Fey put a darkly romantic spin on florals in an Elie Saab stunner with a cool leather belt.

  • Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson continued her winning red carpet streak in a strapless black feathery gown by Oscar de la Renta that made her look like something out of a classical painting.
