Dua Lipa and Stormzy dominated the 2018 Brit Awards with wins for best British female solo artist and British breakthrough act for Lipa and British album of the year and British male solo artist for Stormzy.

"I want to thank every single female that has been on the stage before me," Lipa said in an acceptance speech, donning a white rose in support of the Time's Up movement. "Here’s to more women on these stages, more women winning awards, and more women taking over the world."

Stormzy described his album Gang Signs & Prayer as the hardest music he's ever needed to create. "I didn't have anything left after," he told the audience, then followed up his British album of the year win with an emotional rendition of his hit songs in staged rain.

The awards ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and featured performances from Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Rita Ora, Sam Smith, Liam Payne, Lipa and Ed Sheeran, also saw big wins for Rag'n'Bone Man and Gorillaz.  Sheeran took home the honorary Brit Award for global success for his album ÷.

Prior to the ceremony, Dua Lipa led with five nominations, making her the first female artist to accomplish the feat. Stormzy won awards for both of his two nominations.
