David Cassidy's 7 Most Memorable Television Roles

David Cassidy, the 1970s teen idol who built a career from The Partridge Family, has died at age 67.

Cassidy died on Tuesday evening, surrounded by his love ones, his longtime rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was reported to be in a Florida hospital suffering from multiple organ failure. In recent years, he had also revealed he suffered from dementia and would no longer be performing live. The singer had hit songs including "Cherish," "Come On Get Happy" and "I Think I Love You," from across his five solo albums. 

While he was best known for his music, Cassidy had a number of television stints after his break Partridge Family break, and was even nominated for an Emmy in 1978. Here are some of his most memorable moments, from guest appearances to starring roles. 

  • The Partridge Family

    The role that started Cassidy's music career and made him into a household name was as Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family, a sitcom about a family band. The show ran from 1970-74 on ABC and featured Cassidy in a starring role as lead singer of the band. While on the show, he recorded 10 albums with The Partridge Family, as well as five solo albums, quickly becoming a teen idol and headlining his own tours. 

  • Bonanza

    In the middle of working on The Partridge Family, Cassidy did a guest spot on Bonanza in 1970, playing an angry teen who is accused of killing his teacher. The hit show, a western that followed the adventures of a family living in Nevada, ran for 14 seasons, from 1959-73. 

  • The Mod Squad

    Also in the height of his Partridge Family fame, Cassidy appeared on The Mod Squad in 1970 as a man who tries to stop a runaway vehicle and is accused of stealing the car. He was featured on one episode of the show, a crime drama that ran from 1968-73. 

  • David Cassidy: Man Undercover

    On air for one season from 1978-79, Man Undercover marked Cassidy's first starring role after the end of The Partridge Family. The show came to be after he appeared on an episode of crime drama Police Story, for which he was nominated for an Emmy and was spun then off into his own show. Cassidy played officer Dan Shay and the show followed him as he went undercover to solve cases. 

  • Malcolm in the Middle

    Cassidy stars as a version of himself in a 2003 episode of Malcolm in the Middle, playing Boone Vincent, a singer performing in Las Vegas when the family visits on a trip. He is Malcolm's mother's favorite singer and she gets to meet him backstage after his show. 

  • Ruby and the Rockits

    After years of guest roles, Cassidy returned to a series regular in ABC Family's Ruby and the Rockits, a sitcom about former teen idols who have settled down and let go of their musical roots. Cassidy's brother Shaun created and executive produced the show, and his other brother Patrick was his co-star. The show ran for one season in 2009. 

  • The Celebrity Apprentice

    Cassidy appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2011, competing for the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation as his mother suffered from the disease, which also affected him late in his life. He was the first contestant eliminated from the show but included his daughter, actress Katie Cassidy, in the first episode.
