A behind-the-scenes look at the French fashion house's runway show in the Santa Monica mountains.
Dior headed to the mountains on Thursday evening.
Creative director Maria Chiuri Grazia presented the French fashion house's Cruise 2018 collection in the Upper Las Virgenes Open Space Preserve in Calabasas. More than 800 guests attended, boarding shuttles in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica for a 45 minute ride to the remote meadow, once known as the Lasky Mesa, where scenes for Gone With the Wind were filmed. As a Dior spokeswoman tells The Hollywood Reporter, "There's no Uber whatsoever."
Grazia told THR that she wanted to host Dior's latest show in the mountains "to give an experience of an open space with nothing around," adding that the collection references the Lascaux cave paintings, painter Georgia O'Keeffe and feminist shamanic healer Vicki Noble, who hails from Berkeley, Calif..
In addition to the runway show, Dior transformed Gladstone's in Malibu into the "Dior Surf Club" on Wednesday and hosted a luncheon in Beverly Hills on Thursday. Guests were able to download the Dior-in-L.A. mobile app to keep track of all the festivities, find where to eat and shop locally and learn more about Dior's long history with Hollywood.
Follow along to see what went down backstage, on the runway and on the scene.
Lush green meadow? More like western ranch.
The atmosphere at the grounds is characterized by dusty dirt floors and massive tents — not unlike the vibe from last month's Coachella. "Diorchella," if you will.
There's even a hot air balloon!
Without any access to Uber, guests not ferried by private cars from Los Angeles were asked to arrive at specific pickup locations (one in Beverly Hills, one in Santa Monica), where they then boarded shuttles en route to the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon.
Roomy black vans awaited guests, who then began the hour long trek to the mountains. Water bottles and mints were given to those on board. Sadly, champagne wasn't included.
Upon arrival, guests were transported on gator carts to the runway.
The event drew 800 attendees, including Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Kiernan Shipka, Camilla Belle, Nick Jonas and Rihanna.
Belle took to Instagram to tease her beauty look for the night. "Ready for you @dior," she captioned. Solange also teased on her Instagram story that she'd be performing at the show.
Freida Pinto and former Miss Great Britain Preeti Desai headed to the show, too.
The woman of the hour, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, was spotted lounging (in a t-shirt!) in a tent on the grounds pre-show.
Should the temperature dip below 65 degrees, blankets were provided to all seated guests.
As Chiuri mentioned, the collection is inspired by Lascaux cave paintings, painter Georgia O'Keeffe and feminist shamanic healer Vicki Noble, who hails from Berkeley, Calif..
