'Ferdinand': Meet the Voices Behind Each Animated Character

John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Anthony Anderson and more team up for this Spanish bullfighting tale.

Ferdinand, from the creators of Ice Age and Rio, tells the story of a gentle bull who is taken from his human family and forced to join a Spanish bullfighting ring. Voiced by John Cena, Ferdinand goes on a journey to escape and return home with the help of a mix of bulls, hedgehogs and a goat. 

Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Daveed Diggs, Anthony Anderson and more voice Ferdinand's animal friends in the film, along with original music from Nick Jonas.

  • John Cena as Ferdinand

    John Cena takes on his first starring role as the voice of Ferdinand, a giant but peace-loving bull who is forced into Spanish bullfighting. With help from his animal friends, Ferdinand goes on an adventure to escape, freeing other fighting bulls along the way. Up next for Cena is a role in this year's Daddy's Home 2 and continued involvement in wrestling reality shows WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown!

  • Kate McKinnon as Lupe

    Fresh off of her second consecutive Emmy for her work on Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon voices Lupe, an old goat who helps Ferdinand escape the bullfighting ring. This year, McKinnon will return to SNL for her sixth season and will also voice Ms. Frizzle in the upcoming reboot of The Magic School Bus

  • Gina Rodriguez as Una

    Una, one of three hedgehogs who joins Ferdinand on his journey home, is voiced by Gina Rodriguez. Coming this year, the actress will star on season four of Jane the Virgin and voiced a character in the recent animated film The Star

    Anthony Anderson voices Bones, one of Ferdinand's fellow bulls in the Spanish fighting ring. He can next be seen on season four of Black-ish and voicing another animated character in The Star.

  • Daveed Diggs as Dos

    The Tony-winning Hamilton star continues his transition into film by voicing Dos, one of three musical hedgehogs who helps Ferdinand escape. Up next, Diggs will be featured in Wonder, starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, and is producing the new ABC comedy The Mayor

  • Bobby Cannavale as Valiente

    Bobby Cannavale takes on the voice of Valiente, one of the fighting bulls who Ferdinand works to break free from the Spanish matadors. The actor's upcoming films include roles in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Going Places

  • Gabriel Iglesias as Cuatro

    The comedian has voiced a number of animated characters in his career, and returned to the recording booth for this film, where he voices Cuatro, the third hedgehog who helps Ferdinand on his adventure. Iglesias has two more animated movies that came out recently, with Coco and The Star

  • David Tennant as Angus

    David Tennant voices Angus, another bull who is part of Ferdinand's escape plan in the film. Tennant had two other films, Bad Samaritan and You, Me and Him, released this year and will also be featured in the new Call of Duty: WWII video game.  

  • Miguel Angel Silvestre as El Primero

    The Sense8 actor voices El Primero in the film, a matador who captures Ferdinand and forces him into the bullfighting ring. Next up he will be seen in the two-hour series finale of the Netflix show. 

  • Jerrod Carmichael as Paco

    Jerrod Carmichael voices Paco, the dog for the human family Ferdinand is taken away from, and also appears in this month's The Disaster Artist, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen.
