Warner Bros.' The Lego Batman Movie landed a leading 11 Golden Trailer Award nominations, it was announced today.
Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Lionsgate's La La Land received the second most nominations for the annual celebration of the year's best in movie and TV marketing.
In terms of studios, Warner Bros. (including HBO and New Line) received the most Golden Trailer nominations with 68. In addition to The Lego Batman Movie, Warner Bros. films landing nominations included Wonder Woman and Dunkirk. Fox (including Searchlight, FX and Fox TV) scored 58 nominations for films including Alien: Covenant, War for the Planet of the Apes, Hidden Figures and Snatched. Universal Pictures (including Focus) received 50 nominations for campaigns for The Mummy, Get Out and Atomic Blonde among other films.
Some of the 116 categories include best summer 2017 blockbuster trailer, trashiest trailer, most original trailer, best of show and the Golden Fleece award, presented to the trailer for a film in which the marketing was considered to be better than the finished movie.
With respect to trailer houses, Mark Woollen & Associates scored 33 nominations, AV Squad received 29 and Trailer Park has 28. LA worked on 34 nominees making the agency the lead creative house.
"Trailers, commercials and posters are a true and unique art form and the Golden Trailer Awards celebrate the artists and editors who work tirelessly behind the scenes to create these amazing marketing materials," the awards' executive director said in a statement. "This year’s nominees represent the best-of-the-best of the year in film and television marketing. We love the outstanding caliber of the creativity and are honored to once again shine a light on this special part of the industry.”
Wayne Brady will return as host for the 18th annual Golden Trailer Awards, which are set to take place on Tuesday, June 6 at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.
