Hacksaw Ridge topped the feature competition at the Motion Picture Sound Editors' Golden Reel Awards, winning two trophies, in the feature categories for dialogue/ADR and effects/Foley.
Also on Sunday at the Westin Bonaventure, La La Land won the feature category for music in a musical; Warcraft: The Beginning won the category for sound editing, music; and Moana topped the category for sound and music editing for an animated feature.
Hacksaw Ridge and La La Land are also nominated for the Academy Award in sound editing, along with Arrival, Deepwater Horizon and Sully.
In the MPSE television categories, Westworld has a big night, winning two trophies.
Another noteworthy Golden Reel Award winner is Patrick Osborne's musical film Pearl, which won the special venue category. Pearl is nominated for an Oscar in the animated short category and was additionally released for 360-degree video and virtual reality.

During the evening, Guillermo del Toro received MPSE's Filmmaker Award, which was presented by supervising sound editor and designer Scott Gershin, who noted that Del Toro taps "every sonic opportunity to tell a better story."
Del Toro told the sound community "we have a partnership that to me is sacred … [Sound] is part of the fabric of telling a story." And he received a lengthy standing ovation as he concluded, "I am Mexican and giving me this tells me the barriers people try to erect between us are false."
Supervising sound editor and sound designer Harry Cohen — whose credits include Inglourious Basterds, The Hateful Eight and Deepwater Horizon — got the Career Achievement Award, which was presented by supervising sound editor Wylie Stateman, producer Shannon McIntosh and, in a surprise appearance, Quentin Tarantino. Receiving a standing ovation, Cohen emphasized the importance of mentoring in the sound community.
