First Man's Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy were some of the many stars to grace the red carpet at the 2018 Venice Film Festival.
Stylist Jeanann Williams told The Hollywood Reporter recently that her client Naomi Watts requested many hats, sunglasses and flats to wear during the festival, as stars are hopping on and off boats in between screenings. The red carpet moments, however, are for looks from Paris couture shows, with some crafted by Italian designers to honor the festival's location. Venice outfits “tend to reflect that and they're much more romantic and floaty” compared to other festivals, Williams explained.
Indeed, the ensembles at The Favourite and First Man premieres featured plenty of pink, silver, nude and white for a more romantic look. See a few examples below.
Gosling portrays Neil Armstrong in First Man, and appears here at a photo call on Aug. 29. Read The Hollywood Reporter's review here.
Gosling went white for the premiere of his epic, which sees him reunite with La La Land director Damien Chazelle. "Gosling downplays his natural charisma here to portray a man simply intent on doing a job, approaching it with the utmost seriousness and without ego," THR writes.
Claire Foy wore Valentino haute couture; in the past year, The Crown actress has donned Gucci, Dior and Rosetta Getty. She plays leading lady Janet Armstrong in First Man.
Stone wore Louis Vuitton to a photo call for The Favourite. The actress is a brand ambassador of LV, and will star in a short film for the house, directed by Sam Mendes and released in September.
Stone attends The Favourite debut in Venice. She portrays Abigail in the Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz-fronted project.
Juror Naomi Watts chose a pink Armani gown and Cartier gems to the First Man premiere.
Olivia Hamilton and Damien Chazelle
The director made his way down the carpet with his wife, a former McKinsey & Co. executive turned actress. Chazelle and Hamilton will have a "proper wedding" after the film's debut, he told THR recently, ideally during a brief filmmaking break.
Clarke stars as Edward Higgins White in the film First Man about Neil Armstrong, and smiles here at a photo call on Aug. 29.
Guillermo del Toro
Venice jury president Del Toro attended the First Man screening.
Colman, who stars in The Favourite, opted to wear a black pantsuit with a cape (plus a pearled mermaid clutch) to the premiere. She will next be seen in Netflix's The Crown, replacing Foy as Queen Elizabeth II.
Alwyn, who plays Masham in The Favourite, walked the red carpet in a tux. His partner Taylor Swift did not attend the fest.
Poesy, of Harry Potter fame, attends the opening ceremony for the film fest.
The Mad Max actor posed at a photo call for The Favourite on Aug. 30, accentuating his suit with Tod’s Chelsea boots.
Goulart attends the First Man premiere in Venice.
