Shop Talk: Holiday Celebrations Light Up; Halo Top's Scoop Shop Opens

  • Tree Lighting Festivities

    On Thursday the Segerstrom family and Santa Claus will be at South Coast Plaza for the 6:30 p.m. Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Town Center Park, adjacent to The Westin at 686 Anton Boulevard in Costa Mesa. A 96-foot-tall white fir tree has been decorated with over 94,000 LED and strobe lights for the occasion and there will be complimentary seasonal drinks, sweet treats and performances by Orange County School Of The Arts, a band and carolers. Throughout the holiday season, South Coast Plaza offers extended hours, photo opps with Santa, craft activities, $1 rides on Santa’s Express Train, custom gift wrapping, holiday music, and gift-focused pop-up shops from LEGO, Harry & David and The Wrapper.     Also today at 6:30 p.m. (open to the public at 5 p.m.) is the Rodeo Drive holiday lighting celebration, hosted by Vanessa Lachey with a live performance by Robin Thicke followed by DJ sets by Balthazar Getty and a fireworks display. Sponsors GEARYS Beverly Hills and Baccarat have teamed up again to decorate the famous street with a series of 16 handcrafted crystal chandeliers; there will also be light and sculpture installations throughout Beverly Hills. Beginning on Friday, November 17 through Saturday, December 23, participating stores will extend their shopping hours until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, supplemented by food trucks and live entertainment; Lyft promo codes can be applied for a $5 ride credit between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information and a detailed schedule of activities, click here.           

    Last but not least is The Americana at Brand Christmas season kick-off and tree lighting ceremony tonight in Glendale at 7:30 p.m. with a pre-show at 7:00 p.m. Host Derek Hough will narrate "Twas The Night Before Christmas" while dance troupes perform and then Santa Claus will appear for the lighting of a 100-foot-tall Christmas tree, complete with a faux snow fall and fireworks show.

     

  • Halo Top's Scoop Shop

    Brie Larson, Karlie Kloss, Debra Messing, Khloe Kardashian and Olivia Culpo have all confessed a weakness for Halo Top low-cal, high-protein ice cream. Yesterday, the five-year-old Los Angeles company opened its very first brick-and-mortar shop, the Halo Top Scoop Shop at Westfield Topanga, offering its popular pint flavors in cups or a choice of four cones (cake, sugar, waffle or puffle) with an array of toppings. Also on tap is new soft-serve ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, pistachio, Peanut Butter Cup and Birthday Cake flavors, plus ice cream sandwiches and Halo Top tacos crafted with waffle cone shells.

  • Calvin Klein x Amazon Fashion Pops Up in Santa Monica

    Calvin Klein has teamed up with Amazon Fashion to create co-branded pop-up shops in New York and Santa Monica that quietly opened Thursday, peddling Calvin Klein Underwear products and loungewear for men and women. High-tech fitting rooms feature interactive Amazon Echo devices that customize music and lighting and can answer questions about the brand, and an in-store station offers optional personalized embroidery. Karlie Kloss and comedian-vlogger Lilly Singh are featured in promotions for the pop-up shops, which will remain open through Dec. 31.

  • GALERIE.LA Opening and Rachel Comey Sample Sale at Row DTLA

    In ROW DTLA news, New York-based fashion designer Rachel Comey (whose fans include Solange, Lady Gaga, Tracee Ellis Ross and Julianne Moore) will be throwing a sample sale Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Save up to 70 percent on women’s apparel, swimwear, handbags and shoes.

    On Sunday, Nov. 19, GALERIE.LA,  the multi-brand online boutique dedicated to sustainable fashion and founded by celebrity stylist Dechel Mckillian (who counts Drake, Fergie, Nicki Minaj and Lionel Richie among her clients) will open the doors of its first brick-and-mortar concept store at 11 a.m. Customers can have their auras photographed for $35 until 4 p.m.; purchase tickets here. At 5 p.m. Taryn Hipwell, founder of L.A.-based charitable organization Beyond The Label will be on hand for a signing of the group’s guidebook to sustainable shopping, followed by a talk on the subject with Mckillian.

  • Cult Gaia Pop-Up Shop

    L.A. designer Jasmin Larian's five-year-old fashion label Cult Gaia will pop up for the holidays on Melrose Place on Friday through Dec. 31, offering the fall and resort collections and custom gift wrapping. The brand is known for its architectural handbags such as the half-moon Ark clutch ($128-$298) carried by Michelle Williams, Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts and Chrissy Teigen. There are also rattan bangles ($60), hoop earrings, ($88) and easy apparel pieces, introduced last year, such as high-waist cigarette pants, wrap skirts, wrap blouses with balloon sleeves, slip dresses and camisole tops with cut-out detailing, as seen on Bella Hadid.

  • The Ritual at The Now

    When it comes to carving out "me" time, Lea Michele, Kendall Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens and Whitney Port have all slipped into accessible boutique massage shop The Now which boasts locations in West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Silver Lake and Studio City.  Just in time for the holidays (when we could all use a rub-down), the company has announced a new membership program called The Ritual that offers $10 off a monthly massage (so $55 for 50 minutes or $85 for 80 minutes) along with access to members-only events, a goodie bag and the member rate extended to friends new to The Now. The no-strings-attached enrollment can be frozen or cancelled at any time.

  • DSTLD Showroom Pops Up in WeHo

    On the heels of a short-term, pop-up shop at the Platform shopping complex in Culver City, L.A.-based direct-to-consumer fashion brand DSTLD has opened a new pop-up showroom in West Hollywood that will remain open seven day a week through December 31. This location features the label’s full collection of premium denim and style staples for men and women (worn by Ben Affleck, Kendall Jenner, Ellen DeGeneres, Mila Kunis, Bella Hadid and Cara Delevingne), with personal stylists on site for one-on-one assistance to find the perfect pieces and fits. Orders can be placed in store for a ten percent discount and free shipping.

  • R.M. Williams Opens First West Coast Store

    On Wednesday night, the Australian company R.M. Williams (founded in 1932 and known for its handcrafted leather boots) celebrated the opening of its second U.S. store and first west coast location at Westfield Century City. Alexa Chung, Niall Horan and Logan Shroyer have been spotted wearing the line, which also offers timeless, relaxed wardrobe essentials — from bags, hats and leather belts to polo shirts, button-front shirts and chinos.
