Top 10 TV Shows on Social Media: Scripted/Reality

Social analytics company MVPindex ranks the top 10 scripted/reality television shows of the fall season, analyzing each show’s social activity from Sept-Dec 2015.

Methodology: Rankings are determined by MPVindex’s proprietary algorithm weighing reach (fans, followers, etc.), engagement (likes, comments, shares, retweets, favorites, etc.) and conversation (positive/negative sentiment across the Web).

    The Voice

    The Voice stands as the second most-followed TV show on Twitter, with just over 4 million followers. Tosh.0 comes in at #1 with 5 times the followers, with 20 million.

    Grey’s Anatomy

    Grey’s Anatomy is the 3rd most retweeted primetime show, after The Voice and American Horror Story. Their top post this season, a Thanksgiving cast photo, received more than 6k retweets.

    Empire is the third most-followed TV show on Instagram, after OITNB and The Tonight Show. Their top photo, a regram from Alicia Keys, received more than 50k likes.

    Game of Thrones

    Game of Thrones has the highest average likes and shares per Facebook post of all shows on TV, the most popular post featuring the possibly resurrected Jon Snow.

    Dancing With the Stars

    Dancing with the Stars’ top content is their videos, posted primarily to Facebook and YouTube. Their top video this season has 11M views on Facebook.

    Scream Queens

    Scream Queens is the only show to premiere this Fall to enter the top 10 overall list. The show has 2 million followers across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, but their content is among the most liked and retweeted from TV shows.

    Once Upon a Time has one of this highest Instagram like rates for behind-the-scenes shot of characters in the show’s beautiful costumes and sets.

    American Idol’s engagement primarily occurs on YouTube, but posts about former contestants, like the recent Facebook post about Carrie Underwood’s success, are usually their most-liked.

    With an Instagram full of cute animals and a YouTube channel with hilarious home movies, it’s no surprise that America’s Funniest Home Videos lands among the top shows on social media. Their top video this season, of a little boy laughing at photos of donkeys, has more than 470K views.

    The Simpsons

    The Simpsons is the most liked show on Facebook, amassing 69 million likes since 2007. The top post this season, naturally around its annual Halloween episode, garnered 177K likes and 23K shares.
