The music awards show takes place Sunday.
If there's one red carpet that makes our jaws drop, for better or worse, it's the MTV Video Music Awards. Ahead of Sunday's show, here are the artists whose onstage style we're most excited to see.
The last time Miley Cyrus hit the stage at the VMAs was in 2015, when she performed her then-new single, "Dooo It," in a colorful one-legged unitard custom designed by New York City-based BCALLA. Cyrus also hosted that evening in a variety of revealing, belly-baring looks.
A lot has changed in the last two years, though. Cyrus has since traded in her nipple pasties for more monochromatic looks in shades of white as seen in her "Malibu" music video and several onstage performances. Perhaps we'll see her go with a similar wardrobe at Sunday's music awards show. Or maybe she'll go for more color like she did in her "Younger Now" video.
Katy Perry is a fashion force to be reckoned with — look no further than her tiger-striped basketball uniform in the "Swish Swish" music video, the sequined nude onesie from this year's Glastonbury Festival and the silver Mach & Mach look (above center) that made her look like a sparkly human disco ball at the "Witness World Wide" YouTube concert. And we don't expect her to settle for anything less at the VMAs, where she'll be hosting and performing during the show. With stylist Jamie Mizrahi by her side, get ready for Perry to rock out with some over-the-top glam outfits that will have the internet talking.
When it comes to flaunting her curves, you can count on Demi Lovato to bring it — both onstage and on the step-and-repeat.
Lovato, who works with stylist Avo Yermagyan, is all about the plunging necklines, crop tops, embellished fringe leotards and thigh-high boots. In addition to being nominated for best song of the summer for "Sorry Not Sorry," the pop star will also be hitting the stage on Sunday night, so get ready for all the glitz and glamour that she'll deliver.
Lorde has been taking over the music festival scene this summer and doing so in some fun high-fashion pieces, from a sheer Elie Saab gown (paired with space buns, seen above left) at Outside Lands to a matching checkered BreeLayne two-piece with a Dior brief at KROQ's Weenie Roast.
The singer, who is styled by Karla Welch, is nominated for artist of the year and best editing for "Green Light" at this year's VMAs. She's also scheduled to perform, so don't be surprised if you see her hitting the stage in another eye-catching ensemble and her go-to Adidas sneakers.
Jared Leto — not to be confused with his twin, Gucci's Alessandro Michele — will be performing with his rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, during Sunday's VMAs. And if his recent performances at music festivals are any indication of what's to come, there will likely be an explosion of clashing prints, headwear in the form of a beanie or baseball cap and, of course, lots of Gucci.
