'13 Reasons Why' Breakout Katherine Langford to Star in Frank Miller’s 'Cursed' at Netflix
Netflix's Cursed, a spin on the legend of King Arthur that centers on a teenage girl, has found its lead actor — and it's someone very familiar to Netflix fans of a certain age.
Katherine Langford, the star of the streamer's teen drama 13 Reasons Why, will play the central role in Cursed, which comes from comic-book titan Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. The series, which Netflix picked up in March, is told through the eyes of Nimue (Langford), "teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake."
The series is based on a book for young readers of the same name written by Wheeler (The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Cape) and illustrated by Miller. It's due to be published in fall 2019.
Cursed has also tapped Zetna Fuentes (How to Get Away With Murder, Shameless, The Chi) as the director of the first two episodes. She'll also serve as an executive producer with Miller and Wheeler; Silenn Thomas is a co-executive producer on the series.
Netflix further describes Cursed as "a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible."
Langford earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work on 13 Reasons Why as Hannah Baker, a high school student who leaves behind a series of tapes after her suicide. Her role ended with season two, but the show will return for a third season in 2019.
Langford is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Independent Management Company in Australia. Fuentes is repped by UTA and Andrea Simon Entertainment.
