A Netflix show about the inner workings of government from Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions has found its host.

Adam Ruins Everything star Adam Conover will front The G Word, which will blend sketch comedy and documentary (a la his former TruTV series) to explore and explain the inner workings of the federal government and some of the civil servants who make it run.

The series, which is scheduled to begin filming early next year, is loosely inspired by Michael Lewis' book The Fifth Risk, which Higher Ground optioned back in 2018. It will use Conover's signature comedy style to dig into the profound power of the federal government, profile some of the civil servants who make it work and take a satirical look at its shortcomings.

Published in October 2018, The Fifth Risk detailed the chaos at three government departments — agriculture, commerce and energy — during the transition from the Obama to the Trump administration. The G Word is set to begin production as Barack Obama's vice president, Joe Biden, assumes the presidency — though the federal General Services Administration has as of publication times refused to release federal funds for the transition as Trump's team disputes the outcome of the election.

Conover and his Fair Point partners, Jon Cohen and Jon Wolf, created The G Word and will executive produce with The Daily Show veteran Hallie Haglund and Higher Ground's Tonia Davis and Priya Swaminathan.
