It's the end of The Affair for Showtime.

The premium cable network has renewed the drama for a fifth season, which will also be its last. The series has four episodes left in its current season, with its finale set to air Aug. 19.

"We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair's subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity," Gary Levine, president of programming at Showtime Networks, said Thursday in a statement. "[Co-creator and showrunner] Sarah Treem has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season."

Season four of The Affair has relocated Noah Solloway (Dominic West), ex-wife Helen (Maura Tierney), their kids and Helen's boyfriend, Vic (Omar Metwally), from New York to Los Angeles, while Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) are forging new paths on Long Island. They've drifted farther apart, but their lives also remain intertwined.

The season's early episodes also set up a mystery involving Alison's whereabouts, and the main timeline is gradually catching up to that moment.

The season four cast includes Sanaa Lathan, Christopher Meyer (The Fosters) and Ramon Rodriguez (Iron Fist).

Treem and Hagai Levi (In Treatment) co-created The Affair and executive produce alongside Jessica Rhoades.

The fifth and final season of the show is set to air sometime in 2019.
