'Agent Carter' Duo Return to ABC With 'Gospel of Kevin' Drama Pilot
The showrunners behind ABC's late and great Marvel drama Agent Carter are back at the network.
The Disney-owned network has handed out a pilot order to drama The Gospel of Kevin, from Agent Carter's Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Gospel of Kevin stems from a pod deal that longtime writing duo Fazekas and Butters inked a few years ago with ABC Studios. The project is described as a light hourlong show about Kevin, a down-on-his-luck man who is tasked by God with a mission to save the world.
The drama brings Fazekas and Butters back to ABC following Marvel's critical darling Agent Carter, as well as Resurrection, both of which ran for two seasons apiece.
Gospel of Kevin is ABC's 10th drama-pilot order of the season (off two from last year) and 14th pilot order overall.
This pilot season, the broadcast networks are putting a renewed focus on hourlong dramedies. Fox has Seth MacFarlane's live-action space comedy Orville, while ABC also has The Trustee, about a cop paired with an ex-con. Broadcast networks this season already have started making a push to better appeal to Trump America with more inclusive programming.
Gospel of Kevin marks ABC Studios' leading eighth pilot order of the season — with seven of them coming from corporate sibling ABC as the network continues to vertically align itself.
