Amazon is diving into the cultural stew of Los Angeles with a romantic-comedy project that will film in English and Spanish.

The streaming service has given a pilot order to a project from writer-director Catalina Aguilar Mastretta (Everybody Loves Somebody, Vida), Amazon Studios and Jax Media, producers of Broad City, Search Party and Inside Amy Schumer. The show will center on Sara and her chosen family of relatives and friends, who try to master their careers and romantic entanglements while living together in a Hollywood Hills compound.

When Sara's mother, Ines, returns after years living in Mexico City, it sheds a new light on the life Sara has built and pushes everyone toward a late-in-life coming-of-age.

Lorenza Izzo (Life Itself, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) will play Sara, a photographer who lives in her childhood home, which her parents left to her and her brother when they moved to Mexico City. The property also includes two bungalows that house her closest family and friends.

The cast also includes Georgie Flores (Famous in Love) as Alicia, Sara's best friend; Giancarlo Vidrio (El Vato) as Nacho, Sara's brother and a player-turned-coach for the L.A. Galaxy; Ben O'Toole (Hacksaw Ridge) as Matt, Nacho's former teammate who has been in love with Sara for years; Sarah Ramos (Parenthood, Midnight, Texas) as Anna, a friend of Sara's and Nacho's and single mom who lives in one of the bungalows; and Patricia Bernal as Ines, Sara and Nacho's mother.

Bernal and O'Toole appeared in Mastretta's feature film Everybody Loves Somebody.

Mastretta will write and direct the pilot and executive produce with Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch of Jax Media. Jax's Liz Cohen is a producer.
