Lena Dunham Joining Election-Themed Season of 'American Horror Story'
Lena Dunham is joining the upcoming seventh season of FX's American Horror Story, according to series showrunner Ryan Murphy.
Murphy tweeted the news Wednesday:
Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family. Always wanted to work together, and now we r!— Ryan Murphy (@MrRPMurphy) July 20, 2017
Dunham will appear in one episode, her reps told The Hollywood Reporter.
Murphy previously revealed to Andy Cohen the next season "is going to be about the election that we just went through so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."
Murphy later told THR: "What I’m interested in doing is not just the obvious, single-minded point of view but rather express all sides of that equation. What needs to happen in our country now is for people to listen to each other — we may not always agree with each other and we may be horrified by what the other side is doing but we have to move toward understanding."
However, the showrunner explained that the election will act as a jumping-off point for the new series, and that no actors would be playing President Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, saying that the two would instead be seen "on television."
"The first 10 minutes of the season takes place in a very eerie macabre way on Election Night and there's something terrible that happens in the lives of our characters on Election Night as they're watching it all go down," he said.
AHS regulars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are confirmed to be returning, while Teen Wolf alum Colton Haynes, Popular favorite Leslie Grossman and Scream Queens star Billie Lourd will be joining for the first time. Billy on the Street's Billy Eichner will also appear on the show in an unknown recurring role, while Roanoke stars Adina Porter and Cheyenne Jackson will also be returning.
The new season's title, which has thus far been kept under wraps, will be announced Thursday, according to Murphy:
Official American Horror Story Season 7 title will be revealed Thursday July 20. And suddenly... it will all make sense.— Ryan Murphy (@MrRPMurphy) July 11, 2017
The news will come the same day as the show's pop-up activation at San Diego Comic-Con, which will offer a tease on the new season.
