'American Idol' Ratings Dip but Still Power Fox to Win

The Top 9 elimination night — in which Pia Toscano was sent home – was watched by 20 million; Univision beat NBC and ABC.

The American Idol Top 9 results show -- in which fan favorite Pia Toscano was surprisingly sent home -- easily won Fox the night Thursday. The show was down 10 percent from last Thursday (6.1, 20.6 million viewers), but the network expects numbers to inch up due to the two-minute overrun. With the strong lead-in, Bones was up 3 percent from its last new telecast on March 17 (3.4, 11.3 million viewers) and won its hours in the key 18-49 demo.

CBS came in second place with new episodes of Big Bang Theory (3.6, 11.2 million viewers), which was down 3 percent versus last week; Rules of Engagement (2.5, 8.6 million viewers), up four percent; CSI (2.8, 12.6 million viewers), down three percent; and The Mentalist (2.9, 14.7 million viewers), up four percent.

Univision came in third in the key 18-40 demo with telenovelas Eva Luna (1.7, 4.5 million viewers), Teresa (1.6, 4 million viewers) and Triunfo del Amor (1.4, 3.7 million viewers).

NBC came in fourth with reruns of Community (0.8, 2.3 million viewers), The Office (1.7, 3.6 million viewers), Parks and Recreation (1.4, 2.9 million viewers) and 30 Rock (1.3, 2.7 million viewers). A new episode of Perfect Couples was flat (1.0, 2.3 million viewers) and tied its series low, and a new Community was down 13 percent (1.3, 2.3 million viewers).

ABC was in fifth with reruns of Winter Wipeout (1.6, 5.1 million viewers), Grey's Anatomy (1.3, 4 million viewers) and Private Practice (0.8, 2.5 million viewers).

CW landed in last place with Vampire Diaries (1.2, 2.7 million viewers) and Nikita (0.7, 1.8 million viewers).
