Amy Brenneman has booked her next TV role.

The Leftovers grad has signed on for the TNT mystery drama pilot Deadlier Than the Male, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Executive produced by Bruna Papandrea (Big Little Lies), the project centers on a trio of characters, each with a mysterious and troubling past, including a woman who once looked into the eyes of a dangerous killer, a former serial predator desperate to find redemption and a grieving mother obsessed with finding her missing daughter. As each of them is pushed to the edge, the truth about their pasts and their motives grows ever murkier, blurring the lines between victim and perpetrator.

Brenneman will play Mary, who, after years of searching for her missing daughter, has become a professional grieving mother. On one hand, her loss has made her a passionate advocate for vulnerable women, but on the other, the tragedy has given her new power and polish — as well as a ruthless streak that makes her a threat to anyone who stands in her way.

Picked up to pilot in April, the drama is being produced in-house by Turner's Studio T banner. Papandrea — Reese Witherspoon's former producing partner — will exec produce with Harriet Warner (Call the Midwife, Mistresses), who will pen the script. Casey Haver of Papandrea's Made Up Stories banner will also exec produce.

The role is Brenneman's first since The Leftovers wrapped its acclaimed three-season run on HBO in May. Her other credits include Private Practice, Heat, Judging Amy and NYPD Blue. She is repped by CAA and Mosaic.

Brenneman is the latest name to head to TNT, where Chris Pine, Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly, Tony winner Daveed Diggs and Dakota Fanning are also attached to headline dramas as the Turner cable network continues its programming revamp away from procedurals and towards darker, more serialized programming.
