Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey Among Star-Studded Cast of Amazon Anthology 'Modern Love'
Amazon's upcoming series Modern Love has landed a star-studded cast to tell stories based on the New York Times column and podcast.
The eight-episode, half-hour anthology will feature the likes of Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Dev Patel, John Slattery, Brandon Victor Dixon, Catherine Keener and Julia Garner, among others. The show has also signed Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), Emmy Rossum (Shameless) and Tom Hall (Sensation) to direct episodes.
"It's like I woke up in the actor candy store. We've managed to assemble a dream cast of my favorite actors," showrunner John Carney (Once, Sing Street) said Monday in a statement. "It's a testament to the reach of the original column and of how, now more than ever, love is the only certainty."
The cast also includes Andy Garcia, Cristin Milioti, Olivia Cooke, Andrew Scott, Shea Whigham, Gary Carr, Sofia Boutella and John Gallagher Jr.
Modern Love was one of the early pickups for Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke after she moved over from NBC in February. The exec told The Hollywood Reporter in June that she was looking for "our next big show that women also can't stop talking about," with Modern Love representing a step in that direction.
Horgan wrote the episode that she will direct, which will feature Fey and Slattery (who guested on Fey's 30 Rock back in 2010). Hall also penned the episode that he will helm, while Rossum's episode was written by the late Audrey Wells (The Hate U Give, Under the Tuscan Sun).
Modern Love, from Storied Media Group and The New York Times, is currently in production in New York. Carney is executive producing, along with Todd Hoffman and Sam Dolnick and Choire Sicha of the Times. Trish Hoffman is producing, and "Modern Love" editor Daniel Jones is a consulting producer.
