Don't mess with the good girl in Apt 23.

Dreama Walker, who plays the wide-eyed do-gooder on ABC's freshman comedy Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23, says June is aware of her place in the pecking order when it comes to surviving roommate Chloe's (Krysten Ritter) shenanigans.

"She doesn't want to be stepped on or mistreated," Walker tells The Hollywood Reporter.

"She wants to let Chloe know right from the beginning, 'Hey, this is who you're messing with here; I might look like a doormat because I'm nice, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I am.' There's definitely fight in June."

Two episodes into the Wednesday night comedy, from Nahnatchka Khan, June has proved as much, going toe-to-toe with Chloe and coming out the wiser as she grows a thicker skin and works to become a real big-city resident, proving her roommate with the morals of a pirate wrong.

"Throughout the first season there are times when June is very confident and sometimes she's right and sometimes she's totally wrong, but she definitely tries a bunch of different things and comes into her own as she becomes New York June," Walker says.

The actress notes that the season contains several "firsts" for the virtuous June as she assimilates into the world of modern women, a journey that actually mirrors her own personal experience with New York.

"June does her growing up in New York City and I moved to New York when I was 17 and I had no idea what I was doing," says Walker, whose June moves from the Midwest to the East Coast to pursue her dream job. "I really thought I was going to take that city by storm and it taught me a lot; it was like the school of life. For me, it was like a series of really hilarious experiences in New York with getting jobs and getting fired."

In addition to sharing a similar New York experience with June, Walker notes that her on-screen alter ego's upcoming bid to be a bad girl parallels her own attempts be something she's not.

"Anytime June says, 'I'm going to break the rules,' she falls flat on her face and it's the same for me," she says. "It's really funny to watch because Chloe can do the bad things like a thousand times and will never get in trouble but June will always get in trouble."

As her character continues to come into her own and change -- by the second episode, June has knocked another "first" off her list after bedding a guy (who happened to be Chloe's father!) after the first date -- Walker says June will attempt to get Chloe to do the same.

"There's a really funny episode where I try to make Chloe more like me," she previews, noting June encourages her to date more reasonable men. "It's fun to watch because at the end you realize they're different types of women and you can't change them."

What do you think of June and Chloe's relationship? Apt 23 airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
