Archer Season 5 EP 1 Still - H 2014

After seven seasons, Archer is on the move.

The animated comedy will shift from flagship FX to its younger-skewing sibling FXX for its upcoming eighth season, the networks announced Wednesday. (A premiere date for season eight has yet to be announced.)

Fresh off its Emmy win, the series will join an FXX lineup that also includes You're the Worst, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Man Seeking Woman. For its part, You're the Worst also moved from FX to FXX following its first season, and the jump didn't change its creative spark at all.

"Archer is an awesome addition to the growing slate of original comedies on FXX, where it will join It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Man Seeking Woman and You're the Worst," FX COO and program strategy president Chuck Saftler said in a statement. "[Creators] Adam Reed, Matt Thompson and Floyd County continue to make one of the funniest shows on television, and it's great to see them earn the awards and acclaim that comes with one of the most loyal and avid fan bases in the industry."

The series received a rare three-season renewal in June 2016 that will take it through its tenth season, which is rumored to be its last. (FX has not confirmed an end plan for Archer.)

Archer's move comes after FX launched comedies Atlanta, Baskets and Better Things in 2016; all three series will return for second seasons in 2017. FX has pilots for four half-hours in the works: animated comedies Bigfoot and a Louis C.K.-Albert Brooks entry, as well as live-action vehicles starring Jenny Slate and Cristin Milioti and Nina Pedrad.
