'Archer' Renewed for 12th Season on FXX

With its main character now awakened from a years-long coma, FXX's Archer is going to keep up its spy games.

FXX has renewed the animated series for a 12th season, to air in 2021. The pickup comes a week before the eight-episode 11th season concludes, and amid a ratings resurgence for the show.

"Archer is back in a big way this season, with viewership up as the Emmy Award-winning spy series returns to its roots and begins to plot a 12th season next year," said Nick Grad, president original programming at FX. "Our thanks to [executive producers] Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions for keeping Archer as fun as ever and true to form. Together with its unbelievable voice cast, Archer is set to give fans another great season."

The show's previous three seasons took place in different locales — including a deserted island and outer space — with the in-show explanation that Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) was in a coma. After Archer wakes up, he resumes his espionage work, albeit in a world that has changed quite a bit over the past three years.

Through its first five episodes, Archer is averaging 2.43 million viewers across all platforms, a 32 percent increase over season 10 in summer 2019. The show had initially been scheduled to premiere in April but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Along with Benjamin, the voice cast includes Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Reed and Lucky Yates.

Reed created Archer and executive produces with Thompson and Willis of Floyd County Productions. The series is produced by FX Productions.
