'Bachelor' Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi End Engagement
Another Bachelor couple bites the dust.
Nick Viall, 37, and his winner Vanessa Grimaldi, 29, announced Friday that they have decided to part ways, five months after the Bachelor veteran proposed on national television.
"It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement," they shared in a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn't been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other."
Their broken engagement follows on the heels of season 20 couple Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell's recent split. Bachelor and Bachelorette couples still together from the course of 34 combined seasons are Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo from the most recent season of Bachelorette, JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth, Sean and Catherine Lowe, Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney and Trista and Ryan Sutter. Couples intact from Bachelor in Paradise include Tanner and Jade Tolbert, who just welcomed a daughter, and Evan and Carly Bass, who are expecting.
The season 21 Bachelor was a two-time runner-up on The Bachelorette and took a turn on Bachelor in Paradise before leading his own season in January. He got down on one knee and proposed to Grimaldi during the March 13 season finale. Through tears and with a Neil Lane engagement ring in hand, he told the Montreal native, "I'm in love with you. So much about me being here has to do with the past. When I look at you, all I see is my future."
Before saying "yes," the Canadian shared, "I know things are not going to be easy. I know I can get emotional, get a little crazy, and I can overthink things when things get hard. But I promise to remind you every day how happy you make me."
The pair, however, appeared tense during their post-finale After the Final Rose special, admitting that the long distance relationship and figuring out where they will ultimately live has proven to be a realistic and difficult hurdle in their post-TV life.
“There have been moments where I wanted [Nick] to be a little more empathetic towards my feelings," admitted Grimaldi, not mincing words when speaking to franchise host Chris Harrison before the live studio audience. Viall echoed the red flags: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t [have worries]. We’re still getting to know each other. That’s the reality.”
Grimaldi beat out runner-up Raven Gates, who has returned to find love on the franchise on the current season of Bachelor in Paradise.
The ex-fiances have yet to address their split on social media. Grimaldi most recently spoke of Viall on Twitter Aug. 20:
Fun fact: I alternate between my best friend's Netflix's account & Nick's. I like to think of myself as frugal

The last thing Viall posted with the Canadian was a sponsored Instagram post.
