Ben Kingsley to Star in Epix Modern Noir Drama Series From 'Patriot' Duo
Add Ben Kingsley to the list of Oscar winners heading to television.
Kingsley has been tapped to star in Our Lady, LTD, a 10-episode straight-to-series drama on premium cable network Epix.
From Patriot creator Steve Conrad and executive producer Bruce Terris, the show revolves around a young grifter named James (uncast) as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown (Kingsley), who turns out to be far more dangerous than James suspects. The modern noir series marks Kingsley's largest TV role in his decades-long career.
Conrad and Terris will serve as exec producers and showrunners, with the former attached to direct six of the episodes. Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch also will exec produce Our Lady, which will be produced by Epix owner MGM Television. MGM will also distribute the series internationally. Production is set to begin this fall in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a potential 2019 premiere.
The project marks Epix's biggest swing since Michael Wright was tapped to take over the cable network as president. Under Wright's oversight, Epix has greenlighted the Forest Whitaker-led crime drama Godfather of Harlem and the Batman prequel drama Pennyworth to join a scripted lineup that also includes the second seasons of critical favorite Get Shorty and Berlin Station.
For Kingsley's part, his recent TV credits include the lead in Spike's three-part miniseries Tut (for which he earned a SAG nomination); his Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated role in the HBO telepic Mrs. Harris; and ABC's two-part Anne Frank mini, for which he earned Emmy and Golden Globe noms and a SAG win. On the big screen, the actor's credits include the upcoming The Red Sea Diving Resort, Operation Finale and Nomis as well as Oscar-nominated roles in Gandhi (for which he won), Bugsy, Sexy Beast and House of Sand and Fog. Kingsley is repped by CAA and Independent Talent.
Conrad, who created Amazon's critical darling drama Patriot, also penned the screenplay for the 2017 Julia Roberts film Wonder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Pursuit of Happyness. He is repped by ICM Partners and Weintraub Tobin. Terris counts work on Empire, Betrayal and Underemployed among his credits. He is repped by CAA, Original Artists and Lichter Grossman.
