Four months after landing a mega-deal at HBO, Bill Simmons has launched a production company and tapped Eric Weinberger to serve as president.

HBO announced Monday that NFL Network alum Weinberger has joined the newly formed Bill Simmons Media Group. As part of the job, he will also serve as one of the executive producers on Simmons' upcoming HBO talk show and be charged with building a new content website and podcast network, as well as developing scripted and nonscripted projects, shortform, digital content and other projects as part of Simmons' first-look deal for HBO and HBO Now.

"I can't wait to start working with Eric. He's a talented guy with an impeccable reputation, someone who is uniquely equipped to help me build an innovative multimedia company from scratch," Simmons said. "We're both beyond excited to start brainstorming about my show and other HBO Sports projects as well. I know from experience that you're only as good as the people around you, and Eric is one of the very best."

Weinberger has experience in awards, events and live studio shows as well as sports and entertainment programming during his tenure at NFL Network. As an exec producer, he helped create more than 2,500 hours of live studio programming that included NFL All Access, NFL GameDay Morning, NFL GameDay Final, Around the NFL Live and more.

Before joining NFL Network, Weinberger was the senior producer of Fox Sports Net's Best Damn Sports Show Period and was one of the original staffers at Fox Sports.

The news comes as Simmons recently launched the Bill Simmons Podcast, which has already collected more than 12 million downloads.

Simmons is repped by WME, Dixon Talent and Tom Hansen and Ken Richman; Weinberger is with Reed/Smith's Michael Sherman.
