Ahoy: Preview the Key Art for Starz's Pirate Drama 'Black Sails'

The "Treasure Island" prequel hails from EP Michael Bay and will bow in January.

Starz will set sail with Michael Bay in January.

The premium cable network on Tuesday released the chilling key art for pirate drama Black Sails, a prequel of sorts to Treasure Island, with the freshman series will bowing in January.

Black Sails revolves around Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men and is set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. The series will feature Flint, the most feared pirate of his day, as he expands his ranks and adds John Silver (Luke Arnold) to his crew.

Bay produces the series alongside showrunner Jon Steinberg (Jericho) and co-EP Robert Levine (Touch), with filming on the eight-episode first season under way in Cape Town, South Africa. Zach McGowan, Hannah New, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Clara Paget co-star.
