'Black Widow' TV Series in the Works at ABC
ABC is looking to a Finnish TV series for its next drama.
The network is teaming with former Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Dries to adapt Black Widow. The project is based on Mikko Polla's and Roope Lehtinen's Scandinavian series Black Widows. Set in an idyllic mountain town, three women form an unlikely bond when a tragic boat accident results in the deaths of their significant others. Secrets are made, lives are taken and the truth might be hard to keep buried in this sexy, soapy thriller.
Dries will pen the script and executive produce Black Widow via her overall deal with Sony Pictures Television Studios. The drama hails from Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Appian Way president of production Jennifer Davisson will exec produce alongside Michael Hampton, who shepherded the project. The drama is based on the format owned by Digital Rights Group and Moskito. DRG's Jeremy Fox will also exec produce, as will Fire Monkey's Polla, Crispin Leyser and Lehtinen.
Dries most recently teamed with CSI grad Carol Mendelsohn to adapt the Top Cow comic Witchblade for NBC and Sony TV last season. Her credits include Smallville and Melrose Place.
