Fox is firming up its cast for The Passage.

Boardwalk Empire grad Vincent Piazza has been tapped to star opposite Mark-Paul Gosselaar in the network's vampire drama pilot.

Based on the best-selling trilogy by Justin Cronin, the drama begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and morphs into a post-apocalyptic saga with vampires. The potential series spans over a century and focuses on a young girl named Amy (Saniyya Sidney) who must save the human race.

Piazza will take on the role of Clark Richards, a brilliant, hyper-charmer with a restless energy, fierce intelligence and a dark sense of humor. He joins a cast that includes Gosselaar as Wolgast, a federal agent still reeling from a recent tragedy that has effectively destroyed his marriage. The cast includes Genesis Rodriguez, Brianne Howey, B.J. Britt and Jennifer Ferrin.

The drama, pushed off-cycle and out of the compressed pilot season, is being written by Liz Heldens (Friday Night Lights), who exec produces the 20th Century Fox Television drama alongside Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker and Marcos Siega, with the latter tapped to direct.

Piazza played Charles "Lucky" Luciano for all five seasons of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. His credits include the feature-film take of Jersey Boys and The Wannabe. He's repped by Gersh and Untitled.
