Carol Mendelsohn Readying Rashomon-Inspired Murder Trial Drama for NBC
Carol Mendelsohn is on the case for NBC.
The CSI co-creator is teaming with couple Daniel and Ben Barnz to develop a Rashomon-inspired drama called Prism for the broadcast network.
Picked up with a script commitment, the project is described as a provocative exploration of a murder trial in which every episode is told through the perspective of someone different who is involved. Driven by an ensemble of complicated and original characters, the drama will explore bias in the criminal justice system and let the audience ask if truth matters less than who can tell the most compelling story.
Daniel Barnz (Cake) will pen the script, direct the potential pilot and executive produce alongside his husband, Ben Barnz, and their We're Not Brothers shingle. Mendelsohn will exec produce the Universal Television project alongside her production company topper Julie Weitz.
Prism is the latest sale for Mendelsohn since she moved her overall deal from Sony TV to NBC-based Universal Television in July. The prolific producer also has the police procedural Einstein and the crime drama Capital, both set up at NBC. She is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen.
The Barnzs are with WME.
