Carolyn Newman to Run Scripted TV for Will Packer Media
Carolyn Newman has lined up her next act.
Newman has been tapped to serve as head of scripted television and production at Will Packer Media. Newman will be charged with developing and producing the production company's TV projects and working closely with creators, writers and producers. She reports to Alix Baudin, president of Will Packer Media.
Newman arrives at Will Packer Media two months after being let go at Netflix amid the streamer's executive restructuring. She replaces Sheila Ducksworth in the role at the company. Ducksworth departed in October for a job overseeing the NAACP's production deal with CBS Studios.
"Carolyn’s highly respected reputation throughout the industry is well deserved," Packer said. “She’s got a keen eye for material and talent, which makes her an incredible addition to our team."
Newman spent two years at Netflix, where she served as a director of original series in Nina Wolarsky's content group. She worked on 17 series including David E. Kelley's Anatomy of a Scandal, the recently renewed Feel Good and Darren Star's Netflix transfer Emily in Paris. Before coming to Netflix, Newman spent two years at Entertainment One, where she developed and expanded the company's international and domestic scripted business. She's also had key roles at Amazon Studios and Sphere Media.
"I am so excited to be joining Will, Alix and the team,” Newman said. “Will is a visionary producer, with exceptional taste and deep talent relationships. I have immense respect for how they have produced such commercial and critical successes and am thrilled to be spearheading scripted television production for Will Packer Media."
Will Packer Media, in partnership with Discovery and Universal Pictures, produces scripted and unscripted programming. On the film side, Packer's credits include Girls Trip, Night School and the Ride Along franchise. TV credits include Being Mary Jane and NBC's recently passed-over Night School pilot.
