Cartoon Network Unveils Largest-Ever Slate of Content for 2018-19
Cartoon Network unveiled its largest slate of content ever on Thursday, including five new shows, 30 new apps and an increased investment in podcasts, AR and VR.
In a statement, Cartoon Network president Christina Miller emphasized the network’s diversity of programming for the coming 2018-19 season.
"It has always been in our DNA to embrace kids for who they are and build relatable worlds, stories and characters for them," said Miller. "This moment is especially exciting because this new wave of talent naturally brings depth and interactivity to their storytelling."
Among the new shows is Diego Molano’s Victor and Valentino, a supernatural comedy about a pair of half-brothers who spend the summer with their grandmother in a mysterious town where Latin American folklore comes to life, and Owen Dennis’ Infinity Train, which has already developed a passionate following through the network’s Artist Program, about a girl who tries to find her way home from a train full of infinite worlds. Victor and Valentino is slated to release this year, while Infinity Train will reach viewers in 2019.
Other new Cartoon Network shows include buddy-comedy Apple & Onion, set in a world of anthropomorphic food; the surrealist animal adventure Summer Camp Island; and adventure comedy Craig of the Creek, which follows the expeditions of a group of best friends across a neighborhood creek.
The network also revealed that the 2016 reboot of its alien-infused Ben 10 franchise will receive a third season, while We Bare Bears, about a group of brother bears trying to make it in the world, will return for a fourth season that includes holiday specials, a Halloween episode and a dramatic wedding. That brings its total number of TV programs to 14, adding to previously announced returning shows Adventure Time, OK K.O.!, Let’s Be Heroes, Steven Universe, The Amazing World of Gumball, The Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans Go! and Unikitty!.
Cartoon Network is also stepping up its investment in podcast, VR and AR content, a push that executives believe will only bolster their brand. The investment will include 10 new episodes of the popular Steven Universe podcast, a Ninja Kiwi-developed Bloons Adventure Time TD app and a summer 2018 update of the Ben 10 Alien Experience app.
