CBS Combines Studio, Network Business Affairs Units
CBS is merging its studio and network business affairs operations, with former Netflix executive Jeeun Kim joining CBS Studios veteran Allison Brightman to head up the combined department.
The duo will be executive vice presidents and co-heads of business affairs for CBS. The business affairs units for CBS Studios and CBS Entertainment previously operated separately under Deborah Barak, who is stepping down from her post at the end of the year.
Brightman and Kim will report to Bryon Rubin, the newly named COO and CFO of CBS Entertainment Group. Brightman will be the point person for CBS Studios, working closely with studio head David Stapf, and Kim will do the same for CBS Entertainment alongside president Kelly Kahl.
"As we structure the CBS Business Affairs department for the future, we will benefit significantly from Allison and Jeeun's expertise and experience," said Rubin. "Both are well versed in the financial and operational nuances of linear television, cable and streaming. They are excellent leaders, strategic thinkers and they have long-standing relationships with the talent, production, business and legal communities. I'm excited to have them lead our newly structured team."
Brightman has been with CBS Studios since 2006 and was elevated to executive vp business affairs and operations in January, following the departure of Dan Kupetz for Disney's 20th TV. She oversees all above the line deals for the studio's development and production of shows across all platforms, as well as overall deals with writers and producers.
Kim joins CBS from Netflix, where she was director business affairs for original series. Prior to that she spent 16 years at NBCUniversal, most recently as senior vp business affairs.
The merging of the two business affairs units is the latest in a series of restructuring moves at CBS' parent company, ViacomCBS. The major changes have mostly taken place on the cable side of the business, which has seen a number of executives depart as Entertainment and Youth Brands head Chris McCarthy has consolidated his purview.
