CBS Sets First Wave of Scripted Premiere Dates
CBS will begin rolling out its scripted series in November, joining its fellow broadcasters in ramping up its traditional fall schedule in the weeks before Thanksgiving.
The network will debut 10 shows between Nov. 5 and Nov. 17 — nine returning shows and first-year comedy B Positive, starring Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford. All 10, including CBS' top-rated drama, NCIS, and comedy, Young Sheldon, will have several episodes shot by their premiere dates so they can run uninterrupted for a few weeks.
The 10 series represent half of CBS' planned scripted lineup for the 2020-21 season and will give the network at least some original hours across five nights — Sunday through Thursday. The network is currently using a mix of acquired series, unscripted and news programs and reruns to fill out its schedule.
Thursday night comedies Young Sheldon, B Positive and Mom — all executive produced by Chuck Lorre — will be first out of the gate on Nov. 5. Also premiering in November are comedies The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola and dramas All Rise, SWAT, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.
Still awaiting dates are the Queen Latifah-led reboot of The Equalizer, returning dramas Blue Bloods, Bull, Evil, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, MacGyver, Magnum P.I. and SEAL Team and comedy The Unicorn.
CBS announced a "business as usual" fall schedule back in May, although network entertainment president Kelly Kahl acknowledged at the time a traditional late September premiere week was "highly unlikely" due to the coronavirus pandemic.
ABC and NBC will also debut a number of their new and returning scripted series in late October and November. Fox and The CW are filling out their fall schedules with acquired and unscripted shows — and in Fox's case, its Sunday animation block — while holding the bulk live-action scripted slates for early 2021.
