Chicago Med is getting a taste of A Clockwork Orange.

Star Malcolm McDowell is set to appear in the upcoming third season of the NBC medical drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Golden Globe-nominated actor will play Dr. Jaffrey, a distinguished, erudite, world-renowned heart surgeon. Dr. Jaffrey also happens to be the mentor of Dr. Bekkar (Norma Kuhling), Dr. Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) new workplace rival. Dr. Bekkar was introduced at the end of season two as a new, highly competitive Cardiothoracic Fellow.

McDowell is set to pop up in the ninth episode of the season.

In addition to his film roles in Halloween and Star Trek: Generations, McDowell's extensive TV credits include Entourage, Heroes, The Mentalist and Mozart in the Jungle. He is repped by Chris Roe Management.

Chicago Med is set to return for season three on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The third-year drama is moving to Tuesdays to take over the post-This Is Us time slot currently occupied by Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, another Dick Wolf production. Chicago Med takes over the spot long occupied by flagship series Chicago Fire, which is now airing on Thursdays at 10 p.m.

Despite Chicago Med's later return, the series will still run close to a full season, with 20 episodes set for season three (just shy of the normal 22-episode order).

Showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider executive produce Chicago Med with Wolf, Derek Haas, Michael Waxman, Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski. Wolf Films produces in association with Universal TV.
