Former CMT Exec Jayson Dinsmore to Run Alternative at FremantleMedia North America
Jayson Dinsmore has lined up his next act.
The former CMT programming chief has been hired to serve as president of alternative programming and development at FremantleMedia North America. He will report to FMNA CEO Jennifer Mullin.
Dinsmore, who had been at CMT since 2011, was pushed out in September amid Viacom's executive realignment. In his new post, he will be charged with driving the company's domestic and global strategy within the unscripted genre. Toby Gorman most recently served as executive vp alternative programming at FMNA but left the company last year.
“Jayson is one of the most well-respected and admired executives within the television industry. He is innovative, creative and brings an enormous amount of experience in both development and production. He shares our ambition at FMNA and I am delighted to have him lead our unscripted team,” Mullin said.
Dinsmore will focus on sourcing, developing, pitching and producing original programming. He inherits an unscripted roster at FMNA that includes America’s Got Talent (NBC), Family Feud (syndicated), The Price Is Right (CBS), Match Game (ABC) and American Idol (ABC).
“I’m extremely thrilled to be joining the FremantleMedia family and look forward to working alongside such wonderful and talented people, at a company that has such a rich legacy with many of the most successful franchises in TV history,” Dinsmore said.
During his time at CMT, Dinsmore redefined the country music-themed network's roster of scripted, unscripted, news, documentary and music events, greenlighting series including Party Down South and Sun Records and playing a key role in bringing Nashville to the niche network. Before CMT, Dinsmore spent more than a decade at NBC, where he was senior vp alternative, having worked on shows including Deal or No Deal, The Sing-Off and Minute to Win It.
