Comedy Central's 'Another Period': Ben Stiller Teases "Stupid" 1900s Reality Spoof

It's time to party like it's 1899, courtesy of  Comedy Central's Another Period. The show, which takes place at the turn of the 20th century, is fashioned after modern reality shows — just with more cursing, fighting and backstabbing.

"The pacing of it is it keeps coming at you," executive producer Ben Stiller said Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "[There's] this mix of tones in terms of the comedy coming from this sort of reality show vibe and also this anachronistic thing that is going on, too. It's also just really stupid at times."

The footage shown Saturday was vulgar and frenetic, with the inhabitants of a mansion hurling abuse at their servants.

"It was a time before income tax. Everyone was so rich," said co-creator Riki Lindhome, while fellow co-creator Natasha Leggero added, "People were living like rappers."

Mad Men alum Christina Hendricks plays an overworked servant who is routinely hit in the face with food.

"It was incredibly fun despite all of the meat and gravy and sauce that I had on me at most moments of the show," said Hendricks.

Another Period will launch this summer. Jeremy Konner (Drunk History) directed the episodes, while Jason Ritter and Paget Brewster also star.
