MTV continued to surprise Teen Wolf fans with the best news at Comic-Con.

The network continued its annual tradition of announcing a series renewal at Comic-Con, this time revealing on Thursday that the supernatural drama would return for a sixth season.

The drama, from showrunner Jeff Davis, will again return, getting the early renewal after the fifth season debuted on June 29 to 1.53 million total viewers — on par with its most recent finale.

The drama ranks as MTV's longest-running scripted series and comes as the Viacom-owned network continues to push further into genre fare with its Scream remake and upcoming The Shannara Chronicles, both of which are well-represented at Comic-Con.

This season marks Teen Wolf's first without series star Tyler Hoechlin as Davis previously told THR that he had no end in sight for the drama. "There's always talk of more. I always like to say, if the network is behind and if we still have stories to tell that get us excited, we'll probably go for it," he said ahead of the June return.

Here are other highlights from the panel:

- Filmmaker and self-avowed Teen Wolf fanatic Kevin Smith moderated the panel. "I started bawling [during the season-five premiere]," Smith revealed. He also got visibly emotional when the cast presented him with a Beacon Hills lacrosse jersey.

- Fans of Scott (Tyler Posey) and Stiles' (Dylan O'Brienbromance may want to brace themselves for the next few episodes. "Something happens in episode five in the beginning of the episode that causes a rift between Scott and Stiles and threatens their relationship," Davis said, leading to groans from the crowd. "It's something that Theo (Cody Christian) uses. You'll see these two possibly headed for a breakup."

- This isn't the only forthcoming friction for the series, with Dylan Sprayberry (Liam) promising, "There will be some conflict of Scott and I." He demurred when asked to elaborate.

- Davis was praised by the female castmembers for writing such independent, physical female characters. "There will be more ass-kissing to come," Davis said, referring to more fight scenes.

- A fan in the audience wanted to know when Derek Hale (Hoechlin) would return, prompting Posey to give him the actor a call with his cell. Hoechlin didn't pick up, so Davis said, "It's up to [Hoechlin], so tweet him and tell him, 'Get your ass back to Teen Wolf.'"

Much to the surprise of the cast and the fans, Hoechlin actually called Posey back a few minutes later. "I miss Derek very much," Hoechlin said on speaker phone, declining to specify when he might return.

- The pack is preparing for graduation from Beacon Hills, so the castmembers offered their best guesses for what their characters would choose as their senior quotes. O'Brien opted for "Get your hands off my Jeep" for Stiles; Shelley Hennig thought Malia would want "I love deer"; and Holland Roden picked "Not all monsters do monstrous things" for Lydia.

For Scott, Posey went with "The pack is my anchor." Posey and O'Brien then pretended to shed tears over the emotional choice.

- The show's mid-season trailer for season five was debuted, which can be seen below.
