New 'Daredevil' Season 2 Trailer Shows The Punisher in Action

The second season of Netflix's Marvel series starts streaming on Friday, March 18.

Netflix has released the first of a two-part trailer for the upcoming second season of Marvel's Daredevil, which shows Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) in action. The preview, which ends with a card teasing the arrival of the second part of the trailer on Feb. 25, also offers a glimpse of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reuniting with Elektra (Elodie Yung).

The trailer is the first substantial look at Daredevil's second season and centers around Frank Castle's arrival in Hell's Kitchen.

When Castle tells Murdock that he's "one bad day" away from becoming like the Punisher himself, he knows what he's talking about; the character's comic book origins see the former soldier become a vigilante after his wife and children are killed during a mob shootout. After his debut in 1974's The Amazing Spider-Man No. 129, the character appeared in four issues of Frank Miller's fan-favorite 1980s run on Marvel's Daredevil series as a more violent counterpoint to Murdock's idea of vigilante justice.

Daredevil's second season of 13 one-hour episodes starts streaming on Friday, March 18. This season also finds Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez taking over as showrunners from first season boss Steven DeKnight, who took over for initial showrunner Drew Goddard, who exited to focus on Marvel features.

Daredevil was the first of five Marvel series to debut on Netflix, leading into Jessica Jones and the upcoming dramas Iron Fist and Luke Cage before all four heroes team up for the miniseries The Defenders, in a massive pact with Marvel. The streaming service is also eyeing a potential The Punisher spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed earlier this year.

"With the Punisher and Elektra, we get to take it darker and further," Petrie said at New York Comic Con of Daredevil's second season. "The stuff you want to see, we want to see, and we can't wait to show it to you."
