DC TV Watch: 'Gotham' Reveals Scarecrow's Plan in New Promo
Welcome to The Hollywood Reporter's weekly DC TV Watch, a rundown of all things DC Comics on TV. Every Friday, we round up the major twists, epic fights, new mysteries and anything else that goes down on The CW's Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning and Fox's Gotham. While all the DC TV shows are on summer hiatus, THR breaks down the latest news heading into their returns in the fall.
Worst fear come true | Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) may think he's the unopposed ruler of Gotham's criminal underworld now that he's literally frozen his former best friend, the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), into an ice block in the middle of his new club. But a new promo released for season four reveals not only that a new villain has come to town, but that his plan is to show Gotham "what it means to fear." The Scarecrow is set to bring more of a horror-movie thrill to the new season, and his reign of terror is clear in the new footage, ultimately causing even Penguin to realize he can't control this new threat. Looks like we're in for a Gordon/Penguin team-up to take down the Scarecrow. Could that unlikely duo actually pull it off? Viewers remember that the Scarecrow's father was first seen back in season one, but his son is much more of a formidable villain, based on the new footage alone. Check out the promo below.
How far they've come | Feel like taking a walk down memory lane? Gotham also released a look back at the long journey Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) have been on since the series premiere. Remember the good old days when they were just kids chasing each other across rooftops in the city? Things have certainly taken a darker turn between them going into season four, so reminisce on when things were happy and carefree in the new video below.
New faces | Supergirl is also taking a walk down memory lane in season three with a whole episode focused on the Danvers sisters' past. The sixth episode of the new season, titled "Midvale," will be flashback-heavy, as Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) go on a road trip to their childhood home and relive a murder mystery from high school that shaped their present-day relationship. “You’ll get to see, through the way they interact, how their relationship started when Kara first came to Earth, how it grew, how it became so close and why they’re so close nowadays,” Benoist told EW.com. And there will be some recasted faces in the episode, as Izabela Vidovic (The Fosters) will take over the role of young Kara (previously played by Malina Weissman), and Olivia Nikkanen (The Americans) will play the high-school-age version of Alex (previously played by Jordan Mazarati). TVLine.com first reported this casting news.
