DC TV Watch: 'Supergirl' Reveals Calista Flockhart's Shocking Return
Welcome to The Hollywood Reporter's weekly DC TV Watch, a rundown of all things DC Comics on TV. Every Friday, we round up the major twists, epic fights, new mysteries and anything else that goes down on The CW's Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning and Fox's Gotham. While all the DC TV shows are on summer hiatus, THR breaks down he latest news heading into their returns in the fall.
Cat Grant is officially back | While Supergirl producers have been keeping Calista Flockhart's eventual return to the series as Cat Grant under wraps since her appearance in the season-two finale, a new promo for all of The CW's DC Comics TV shows has revealed not only her season-three debut but also her potential new role on the series. In the new footage, Cat is seen at the podium in the White House saying in her trademark unimpressed style, "Go ahead, fire away." Is Cat the new White House press secretary? Supergirl is no stranger to tackling real-life political issues like immigration and women's rights, so is Trump next? That would mean that Cat's college friend Olivia Marsdin (Lynda Carter) would no longer be POTUS if so. No matter who is in charge at the White House, having Cat as the press secretary means that season three will feature an exciting focus on national and global politics within the world of the Arrow-verse.
Extreme date night | The new trailer also featured a glimpse into Alex's (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie's (Floriana Lima) relationship in season three. Ever since it was announced that Lima would have a smaller role this year as she was demoted from series regular to recurring, fans worried that meant trouble for "Sanvers," but this small scene should quiet those fears (for now) as the two women are all smiles as Alex jokes about having to wear tactical gear on date night.

Legends of Tomorrow
Much-needed vacation | Looks like Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) is finally getting that trip to Aruba. After his numerous comments about taking some time for rest and relaxation after saving the world not once but twice, Heat Wave and his fellow Legends team member Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) are seen in the DC TV trailer sporting some serious Hawaiian shirts, bathing suits and shades on the beach. Their vacay won't last long seeing as how they literally broke time in season two and need to fix it (and Sara is seen in a brief flash roundhouse kicking a warrior wearing armor on the beach), but everyone deserves a tropical getaway now and then before saving the world (again), right?
Prodigal daugher returns | Legends of Tomorrow has cast star Brandon Routh's real-life wife Courtney Ford as Damien Darhk's (Neal McDonough) daughter for season three. The character Eleanor, first seen as a young child on Arrow, will first appear in the fifth episode this season and will recur throughout season three. Eleanor is described as "smart and cunning with a charming dose of otherworldly creepiness — think Wednesday Addams all grown up." She uses her innocent looks as an act to manipulate others, and is always several moves ahead. She takes after her father, and is incredibly dangerous, especially considering the fact that Routh's Ray Palmer will find himself unexplainably attracted to her despite her evil ways. EW first reported this casting news.
Batman's origin | In case there were any doubts, Gotham is officially turning young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) into a proto-version of Batman this season. In a new promo released for season four, Bruce dons a new black leather outfit, including Batman's infamous mask and cowl, despite still being a teenager. The footage also reveals a first look at one of Batman's biggest villains, Scarecrow aka Dr. Jonathan Crane as well as Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) reveling in his newfound power as Gotham's criminal kingpin. Check out the new trailer touting the series' move to Thursday nights below.
