Nearly a year after it was picked up to pilot, TNT is moving forward with Deadlier Than the Male.

The thriller, starring Lily Rabe, has been ordered to series at the Turner-owned cable network. An episode count and premiere date have not yet been determined. Production will begin in the summer in New Orleans. (TNT stresses that Deadlier Than the Male is a working title.)

The drama is described as a morally complex thriller about three damaged people trying to start over. Rabe (American Horror Story), Enrique Murciano (Without a Trace)Hamish Linklater (Fantastic Four), Chiara Aurelia (Pretty Little Liars) and Amy Brenneman (The Leftovers) star. It was created by Harriet Warner (Call the Midwife), and Big Little Lies' Bruna Papandrea will executive produce via her Made Up Stories banner. The series is a co-production between Papandrea's company and Turner-based Studio T. Warner wrote the script and exec produces alongside Casey Haver of Made Up Stories. Houda Benyamina (Divines) directed the pilot.

"Deadlier Than the Male is the holy grail of complicated female characters, with a thrilling, layered storyline that will excite and shock audiences," said Sarah Aubrey, executive vp originals at TNT. "Harriet Warner, Bruna Papandrea, Houda Benyamina, Lily Rabe and Amy Brenneman are truly a dream team who have brought their brilliant creativity and talent to this mystery series."

For her part, Papandrea's Made Up Stories shingle was formed in January 2017 and is currently producing and co-financing The Nightingale. Before that, Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon launched Pacific Standard and produced the features Wild and Gone Girl and HBO's awards magnet Big Little Lies. Papandrea is among the exec producers returning for season two of the latter.

"I couldn't be more thrilled for Made Up Stories' first TV series to have such incredible women behind and in front of the camera," said Papandrea. "Harriet Warner is a sublime talent. Houda Benyamina is a filmmaking force to be reckoned with, and it has already been an amazing experience collaborating with this great cast and the incredible team at TNT."

Deadlier Than the Male joins a drama slate at TNT that also includes The Alienist, Animal Kingdom, Claws, Good Behavior, The Last Ship, The Librarians, Snowpiercer and One Day She'll Darken, among others.
