Surprise! Donald Trump Commends Oprah's Cancellation of Rosie O'Donnell

Trump Expands "Celebrity Apprentice"

NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" returns Feb. 12 for its fifth cycle -- and 12th overall in The Apprentice franchise -- upping the number of contestants (to 18) and episodes (to 15). "It's hard to top the past few seasons, but we think we've done it," Donald Trump tells THR of his new cast.

Donald Trump's years-long vendetta against Rosie O'Donnell shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

In an interview on Monday's Fox and Friends, the real-estate-and-reality-TV mogul happily provided feedback when asked about the cancellation of O'Donnell's talk show after a five-month-run on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

'Well, I always knew that Oprah was smart," sniped Trump, currently judging the fifth season of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.

"Frankly, that was just going to happen," he said. "I knew it immediately when they announced it. Rosie fails at everything. She had a variety show, it failed. ... I just don't understand now, somebody else, some moron will come and hire her again to do something else but that will fail. At some point, let her go away. She'll never make it. And I've said it for years, she'll never make it."

Trump, whose feud with O'Donnell began in 2006 after she criticized his decision not to fire then-troubled Miss USA Tara Conner, added that the ex-View co-host "must have a very good agent."

OWN announced it was cutting O'Donnell loose on Friday following lackluster ratings at the network and an average of 190,000 viewers for the show itself. O'Donnell's final episode airs March 30.

"I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day," Winfrey said in a statement. “As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.”

Said O'Donnell: "I wish the show was able to attract more viewers -- but it did not.  So I am headed back to my home in New York -- with gratitude. On we go!"

In an apparent bid to sic her fans on Trump, she re-tweeted this message from her rival on Monday: "Rosie O'Donnell has failed again. Her ratings were abysmal and Oprah cancelled her on Friday night. When will media executives learn that Rosie just hasn't got it."

A representative for O'Donnell did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment.
