In the wake of Peter MacNicol's disqualification as a guest actor in a comedy series Emmy nominee for appearing in more than half of Veep's fifth-season episodes, the TV Academy on Thursday announced his replacement: Peter Scolari, who appears on a different HBO comedy series, Girls.

The nomination means that Scolari, who plays Lena Dunham’s father Tad on the show, was the actor who initially garnered the most votes without receiving a nomination in the category. It also marks the only mention this year for the Dunham-created series, which will air its final season in 2017.

Veteran character actor MacNicol had earned an Emmy nomination earlier this month for his role as Jonah's (Timothy Simmons) politically influential uncle on Veep, but his nom was rescinded Wednesday by the TV Academy.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Sept. 18.
