First Look Media's Topic Studio is beefing up its scripted television slate.

Building off its roster of feature films and documentaries, the company is developing new TV projects including those from Jack Paglen, Channing Tatum's Free Association, Alex Garcia Lopez, Erin Foley-Chan and Daniel Powell. The slate includes thrillers, comedies and dramas, and adds to the company's two previously announced scripted projects, both of which are getting new writers.

The new projects include Hunger, a geopolitical thriller about the powerful, covert and dangerous business of the global food industry, written by Alex Garcia Lopez (Utopia, Walking Dead); Trying, a half-hour dramedy about a chronic people-pleaser who can't resist helping everyone around her, written by Erin Foley-Chan (The President Show) and executive produced by Daniel Powell (Inside Amy Schumer); and Company 8, an hourlong drama executive produced by Tatum's production company Free Association that is based on Matthew Pearl's nonfiction article from The Atavist, which tracks Willard Sears and his shoddy team of derelict young firefighters in 1800s Boston who would later build the future of the United States Fire Department.

Those efforts will join two previously announced hourlong dramas: Gold Fame Citrus, with new scribe Jack Paglen (Alien: Covenant) set to write the project; and The Apothecary, written by Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett (Madeline, Wimbledon) and based on the best-selling trilogy by Maile Meloy. These endeavors mark the first round of scripted television under development at the newly branded Topic studio. Additional projects are expect to be announced.

"This past year, we've looked for great writers and exceptional material that reflects the state of the world, even if that's indirectly," said Adam Pincus, executive vp programming and development for First Look Media. "Television is clearly a place for the kind of ambitious storytelling we gravitate to, and we're excited about this slate and all the projects we have coming."

Topic is also executive producing and co-financing several films in various stages of development and production, including On the Other Side with Carey Mulligan; Silence cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto's directorial debut, Bastard, with Martin Scorsese; My Abandonment, starring Ben Foster (Hell or High Water); and more. The company is also behind Netflix's documentary Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, directed by Brian Knappenberger; and Showtime's Risk, the documentary from Laura Poitras (Citizenfour) about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
