Fox is planning to give one lucky couple their dream home.

The network said Wednesday that it has greenlighted Home Free, a new reality competition series from Relativity Television and executive producer Tom Forman (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) in which nine couples compete to ultimately win their fantasy home.

Each episode of the series, hosted by Mike Holmes (HGTV's Holmes on Homes), finds the couples challenged to revive one rundown house by being presented with tasks that test their do-it-yourself skills, with Holmes providing his guidance and expertise. But in a twist, when the work is done for the day, the couples learn that not only must they work together to restore the home, they must all live together in the same dilapidated home.

Each week, the couples with the best work will move forward in the competition, while the couple who doesn't perform up to code will face elimination.

The eight-episode unscripted series debuts at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22.

"Home Free is a 'renovation' of the home makeover genre," said Forman, CEO of Relativity Television, adding that Holmes is "going to inspire our contestants, but also push them to the limit, and that's a great thing. I've done some big shows, but this is the biggest, complete with all sorts of twists and turns you'll have to watch to believe."

Said Holmes: "A home is way more than brick and mortar. So being part of this new series and partnering with Fox is truly exciting for me. I'm ready to break ground with these couples. It's going to be a lot of sweat and tears, but I promise you, all worth it in the end … trust me on this.”

Forman and Holmes executive produce with George Verschoor, Trice Bartow, Brad Bishop and Andrew Marcus. Electus will distribute internationally.
