'Friday Night Lights,' 'The O.C.' Writers Reunions Added to ATX Television Festival Lineup
The cast of Friday Night Lights and the writers of The O.C. are set to reunite at the fifth annual ATX Television Festival.
The festival, which takes place June 9-12, will also feature panels and screenings for Lifetime's UnREAL, TV Land's Younger and Hulu's Casual.
Additionally, showrunners Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy) and Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin) will make their festival debuts. And fresh off his decision to exit from House of Cards after season four, creator Beau Willimon will moderate a discussion with David Simon (The Wire) and Tom Fontana (Oz), who collaborated on the '90s cop drama Homicide.
The Friday Night Lights High School reunion, as its being pegged, will bring together cast, crew and fans on the famous Panther Field for a pep rally complete with live music, photo opportunities, tailgating activities, a special episode screening and, yes, surprise cast appearances. The event, cosponsored by Texas Monthly, coincides with the 10th anniversary of the premiere.
The O.C.writers' room reunion – which follows in the footsteps of last year's meetup for Dawson's Creek – will feature creator Josh Schwartz, writer and executive producer Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), and writer Leila Gerstein (Hart of Dixie). More panelists will be announced at a later date, and the reunion will also feature a special reading of the pilot with a yet-to-be-announced cast.
Previously announced panels include an Everybody Loves Raymond reunion, a writers' room reunion for The Shield writers' room reunion featuring Shawn Ryan; a live script reading of Fox's unproduced Big remake from the creators of Enlisted, as well as career retrospectives for Shondaland partner Betsy Beers and Bones' Hart Hanson. Additionally, seminal TV writer Norman Lear will receive the Achievement in Television eXcellence Award.
