Futurama is back — in podcast form.

In a new 42-minute episode from Jam City (via its game studio TinyCo), FoxNext Games and series creator Matt Groening, the podcast episode features the original voice cast returning for a new adventure from Groening, co-creator David X. Cohen and the Futurama writers.

Fry (Billy West), Bender (John DiMaggio), Leela (Katey Sagal) and the rest of the Planet Express crew reunite in a new mission that sends them on a routine expedition to planet Junkleon 7, where they encounter a nefarious life form composed of sound waves from discarded 21st-century podcasts, voiced by Chris Hardwick.

"Last year I cornered two fine gentlemen — Matt Groening and David X. Cohen — and pitched the idea of doing a new Futurama episode as a podcast/radio play because it's one of my favorite things AND I NEED MORE OF IT," said Hardwick. "Today I am drooling with unfiltered joy to say that A) it's actually happening, B) I got to voice the villain (Klaxxon) and C) I'm a freaking head in a jar in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a game I've been feverishly playing since it came out. Galaxies of thanks to Matt, David and TinyCo for acquiescing to the maniacal ravings of a well-meaning fanboy."

The inspiration for the new podcast episode came to life when the cast of Futurama reunited for the launch of Jam City's mobile game, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, in June.
