Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has closed a deal to topline a Showtime limited series from Sarah Treem, co-creator of The Affair.

Gadot will play actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr in the project, sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Showtime declined comment, sort of.

"If Hedy Lamarr and Gal Gadot and Sarah Treem come together on Showtime, we would be very happy about it," Showtime programming president Gary Levine said Monday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.

The series would chronicle the life of Lamarr, the Austrian-born actress who starred in Ecstasy, Samson and Delilah and other films. She also was an inventor who, along with her friend, composer George Antheil, patented a frequency-hopping system during World War II that presaged Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology.

For their contributions, Lamarr and Antheil were inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.

Lamarr's life was chronicled in the 2017 documentary Bombshell, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and aired as part of PBS' American Masters in May. NBC's Timeless aired an episode in March that featured Lamarr as a character, played by Alyssa Sutherland.

Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid's Tale, Fargo) will executive produce the limited series with Treem. The project comes from Endeavor Content.

Gadot broke out as a star in last year's Wonder Woman and is currently filming a sequel with director Patty Jenkins. Her other recent credits include Keeping Up With the Joneses and Criminal. She also is attached to the action-thriller Red Notice, opposite Dwayne Johnson.

The Lamarr series would be Gadot's first major role on American TV; she guest-starred on HBO's Entourage and appeared on the short-lived CW series The Beautiful Life in 2009.

The Affair, which Treem co-created with Hagai Levi, will wrap its fourth season Aug. 19. It has been renewed by Showtime for a fifth and final season.

Gadot is repped by WME and attorney Robert Offer. Treem is repped by WME and Schreck Rose.
