'Game of Thrones' Creator Wants 'Outlander' Favorite Back on the Show
Is it time for Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) to make his return to Game of Thrones?
Author George R. R. Martin thinks so, as he revealed on his personal blog, where he praised Menzies' work on Starz's Outlander.
Edmure, uncle to the late Robb Stark (Richard Madden) and brother to Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) hasn't been seen since season three's Red Wedding, where he was married off to Walder Frey's (David Bradley) daughter Roslin (Alexandra Dowling). Lord Frey betrayed the Starks, with Edmure the only of Robb's kin to survive the deadly wedding.
"If you haven't been watching OUTLANDER, you're missing a terrific TV series. Gorgeous to look at, and the performances by the three leads are terrific," Martin wrote, adding that he hoped showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would invite Menzies back.
"Tobias Menzies, who played Brutus on HBO's ROME and Edmure Tully on GAME OF THRONES, is especially noteworthy in a double role. (I just hope we'll be able to get him back, if and when D&D decide to return to the riverlands)," he wrote.
Walder Frey has been mentioned throughout the years since he was last seen on screen, and presumably Edmure remains his captive at The Twins. In the books, there is a major plotline involving Edmure that has yet to be played out in the show, with him being used as a pawn against his Uncle Brynden Tully, who holds their ancestral homeland at Riverrun.
On Outlander, Menzies has become a fan favorite for his work as the sadistic Black Jack Randall. The adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's time travel novels, from executive producer Ronald D. Moore, has been renewed for a second season.
Game of Thrones' season five finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO. Stay tuned to The Live Feed for more from Game of Thrones.
